Our story

Hi! I’m Melissa, and I’m so happy you’re here. In the first year of COVID, I burned out from sitting in front of screens for the majority of my time in my day job. I found myself craving time in my yard and decided to lean into my deep love of gardening and flowers, transforming my space into a jungle of flowers and vegetables. Fast forward a year, I was lucky enough to find my dream urban property to pour all of my spare time into. Since then, I have been transforming a very large lawn into an oasis of flowers for myself and my community. My dog, Nova, shadows me around — you’ll see her doing cameos in many of my pictures and videos.

I consider this project to be a “super-hobby”— not just a sometimes hobby but not my full-time business either. Things will change over time, so I welcome you to follow along on this incredible journey!

For now, I’m offering a limited number of bouquet subscriptions, dried flower arrangements and wreaths, and custom orders. In the future, I dream of hosting pop-up events, classes, and more so you can enjoy the beauty in person.

The property

Urban Farmlette sits on a 1/2 acre in urban Portland, OR—it’s not big for a farm, hence the name “farmlette”! I’m slowly transforming the lawn into over 1/4 acre of cut flowers for the community and for the bees and other beneficial insects in the neighborhood.

Community is and will always be at the center of my approach, and my hope is that my flowers will bring people together, whether on the farm or elsewhere.
